Got my old computer (that ain't too old) but am wondering can I upgrade it by putting in my old mans XP CD cos I'm going round there tonight and could "borrow" it.

Thereafter is it possible to put in USB 2.0's or should I wave bye bye to my "old" PC an fork out for a newun.

EVEN IF YOU HAVEN'T GOT A SCOOB PLEASE CAN YOU LET ME KNOW YOUR HUMBLE OPINION. If a lizard says it can be done. Then of course it f***ing am.

Whatever it's worth a try....thanks.

REDLAND (saviour) anyone in the know PLEASE READ ME

If I borrow a win XP CD from work and install it on my computer at home is this sort of thing checked (i.e. when I go on the internet will my home computer secretely check something with microsoft and send the SAS round with tear gas to get me for using the software?)

*turns out my old man didn't have a copy and if I was "borrowing" a copy I would have prefered it to be the old mans, rather than works.

Could it ever get back to work?

If you use a pukka copy, you won't be able to install it as you need to phone Microsoft to get a security key to allow you to install it and they will ask you for a code on ya XP disk !!!!

You need to get a hacked copy, and theres load on the net, with this security key disabled.

If you get a hacked copy make sure its got all the security tags turned off as Microsoft can check over the internet !!!

Just realised the thing I thought I could get my hands on at work is Microsoft Office XP professional so not windows anyway. Dunno why my old man hasn't got the windows disk. When he brought it they didn't send it to him, just a recovery disk of some sort....****s.

f***!

Got to be honest I wouldn't stand a chance doing all the hacked thingmebobbys with turning stuff off. Straight over my head. Might just walk past that computer repair shop on london road and see if they can upgrade it for me........they better not steal my porn!!

so redders final, final. Even if I found a copy of XP (to try and save £100) I still couldn't install it, I would in fact need to look on the internet for some hacked copy right?

Have you/anyone tried this....is it easy?

That would be sexual.

I'm gonna give local computer repairs/build/upgrading people a quick bell and see what else I'd need to do to my computer. How much cost to upgrade processor/motherboard/DDR memory/USB 2.0/firewire etc....what a pile of shit!

THANKS LOADS FOR ALL THE KNOWLEDGE:clap:   :drink: :drink: :drink:

REDLAND YOU WINNER or anyone else who knows bought computers.

I got off my arse and found out a bit about my "old" computer. It has:

Windows 98 2nd edition
Intel Pentium III processor
224mb RAM
40gb HD (which is limited, i guess by motherboard, to 31gb)
48xspeed CD player
creative SB live! 1024
modem and shit
Couldn't work out what type of USB it was (guess anyone from year 1999)

pretty f***ing good hey. Anyway back to the iPod discussions. Do you think that'll be able to take it....itunes that is. And/or will it be able to take a Windows XP update.

by the way - you know how it says "update windows" on the start menu. It won't update it to XP will it :dunce:

Spent the last 2 weeks at work on pricerunner and other sites looking at the best way to build up my computer if this is not good enough. I reckon if worst comes to worse a new mother board (SATA, firewire, Athlon XP compatible, inc sound card) plus the athlon xp 2600+ processor will set me back about 120 bones and that'd be enough to be on my way for now.......actually would still need ****ing windows update, the ****s

THANKS FOR ANY HELP, OWE SEXUAL FAVOURS.......(or a drink at a MEAT up)

yeah it's pentium III speed innit. :dunce:

I found something on microsoft website that I'm gonna try tonight that says you can upgrade windows to XP (hopefully for free). It said min spec is 333mhz and hopefully the pentium 3 is at least that.....fingers crossed anyway.

If I do this, will I lose all that was on my hard drive  Need to know before I do it. Will lose every Jackass episode, loads of COOL films, music and Frankie
