Awful. All of them. Struggling to think of one who has come close to performing well.

Lampard, Terry, Rooney, Torres, Van Persie, Evra, Anelka, Drogba. Hell, Fabregas cant even get on the pitch. Only ones who can hold their head up are lesser names like Dempsey.

Makes you think how good our top division really is. Not just the English stars Prem stars who've failed to perform.

1) Boateng of Ghana (Portsmouth). Been very involved in most of Ghanas play and scored a great goal yesterday

2) Heitinga of Holland (Everton). Strong central defender which has been a huge reason that Holland have only conceded the one goal so far.

3) De Jong of Holland (Man City) - A rock in central midfield. Another reason why they have had very little problems defensively.

4) Van Persie of Holland (Arsenal) - Not hit full stride yet but the main striker of Holland. Very classy player who has got a goal and an assist to his name so far. Will go on to score more goals.

5) Kuyt of Holland (Liverpool) - As mentioned before, had a strong tournament. Not so much pure class but very important player in the Holland team. Gets himself in amongst it and has a goal to his name from right midfield.

6) Carvalho of Portugal (Chelsea) - Really strong showing from him so far. Part of the defence that has yet to concede a goal in this tournament having already played Brazil

7) Carlos Tevez of Argentina (Man City) - A real world class player. Scored two goals today and is a constant threat in games with his work ethic.

8) Mascherano of Argentina (Liverpool) - The captain and word class holding midfielder. Really holds an average Argentina midfield together (Di Maria apart) and has been brilliant so far this tournament.

Carvalho and Mascherano sure. Tevez only really hit form today. Kuyt got a couple of scrappy goals but been average in general play, taken off a couple of times. Van Persie has been poor so far.

De Jong, Heitinga, Boateng again spot on but arent big name players, and the first two werent exactly integral to their club sides.

Really I just found it surprising that all the 'stars' of the Prem have failed to deliver.

Who has looked good then as I don't think many players have stood out?

Villa, Higuain, Tevez, Mascherano, Forlan, Suarez.

Certainly no more than a handful so hardly just the premiership players that have failed to shine.

Barring Torres (not fit at all) and Fabregas (been given a few minutes on field), it's only really the English premier league players that have obviously dissapointed..

Biggest disappointment so far for me? Messi.

The commentators will praise him and praise him but for the best player in the world, scoring 0 goals against Nigeria, South Korea, Greece and Mexico is poor which ever way you look at it..

Most Uruguayans, Paraguay looked good. Sneijder, Donovan (true he did play in the Prem for a bit), Elano, Messi, Pique, Ozil, Lahm, , Coentrao, Jong Tae-Se :)laugh:)

Possibly my sweeping generalisation wasnt brilliantly thought through though, especially given the Italians performance most of whom play domestically.

It's not so much the big names that make the premier league so strong. It's the depth of quality players.

The likes of Heitinga, De Jong, Ji Sung Park, Carvahlo, Boateng, Donovan, Nelson (New Zealand), Skrtel, Howard are not the stand out players in any of their respective teams but are all quality players still.

Even Gutierrez, Koren, etc are quality players and weren't even in the top flight last year!
