so people went round the corner and kicked off with the old bill, or at least that appeared to be the plan. I remember a train getting basically stripped on the way back and everyone forced off at somewhere godforsaken in Essex surrounded by old bill. I recall going up there the opining game of the season when we lost 2-0, BZ first game as a Brighton player. My friend and his g/f were told that they would have to take the tops of their bottles of drink in case they threw them on the picth. After 5 minutes wasted trying to get them to chage their mind, we walked through the turnstil and just inside was a pile of stones and small rocks. I pointed this out to a steward who told me that he was not responsible for them but was for bottle tops.

That was our last win there iat Easter 1974 and it was a bit of a riot and a St Johns man got hit by a flying brick. The train incident followed complaints from some Essex girls about the behavior of some of our fine Sussex lads.

All seemed good fun, at the time.

Was late 70,s.lots of trouble befor and after the match.The train was pulled over due to a girl being felt up by a number of the bosun boys and a number were taken away and later charged.The train was met at London with a huge ploice escort and then more police on the trip back to brighton.not sure if this was the game that a southend fan was also was stabbed just befor kick off in the car park.hope those days are over for good.
