Is this one of SC's targets and is he any good?
See the bit below about Div 2 clubs

Northern Ireland international Michael Hughes is optimistic that his year-long nightmare which has prevented him from finding a club is set to end.
Hughes did not play any club football last season because of a disagreement between Birmingham City and Wimbledon.

However, the winger is currently training with Crystal Palace and he has told the BBC that he is confident he will sign for a club before the start of the new season.

Hughes has already had offers from a number of Nationwide Division Two clubs but he is holding out hope of landing a move to a Division One or perhaps even a Premiership outfit.

The fact that he is training with Palace will inevitably lead to suspicion that he may sign for the Eagles although Hughes is remaining tightlipped on the issue.

"I'll definitely have a club for the start of next season," Hughes told the BBC.

"I don't want to appear big-headed but I know that I'm going to be involved with a club in some capacity".

Living off donations

The Northern Ireland winger joined Birmingham on loan in March 2002, believing he had an agreement on a permanent three-year deal if the club got promoted to the Premiership.

However, an ankle injury forced Hughes to return to Wimbledon after just three games for the St Andrews club.

The Midlands club then told Hughes the three-year deal was no longer valid because he had not completed the loan spell.

Neither club paid him last season which saw him forced to live off donations from the PFA's benevolent fund.

Confusion over which club held his registration prevented him from signing for another club but Hughes has now been advised that he will be able to sign for another outfit.

Not too sure about this one, he reeks of Paul Kitson to me.

Just signed a winger, and are looking at Richie Partridge, so I don't think our man Pards will be onto this one.

Zamora, on the other hand ;)

That boy's mustard - I assume this will just be a loan?

Well, I dunno really. Its all gone quiet over here.

We put in a bid last week (allegedly - not reported by RFC as per usual) and Liverpool officially confirmed that it'd been accepted. But that's the last we've heard. Meant to be around £350k. Apparently Charlton are after him now though, and if he doesn't go there we might try a season loan.

A left winger is 4th in the line of priorities though, with a centre-forward and centre-back ahead of left wing.

Michael Hughes is a good player. He'll be immense in Division Two!

If we get Michael Highes which I very much doubt we even have a sniff at, it would be a better signing than Robbo in my opinion, he's a quality player if fit he'll be top class.

Personally i doubt DK could afford any wages for big name players, all we'll get this year is trialists that haven't played div2 before and loan players.

From what those of you who know who he is say, we've probably got no chance then. But I hope we are one of the 2nd div clubs who have made him an offer. At least it shows some ambition:)

Well if he hasnt been getting any money for the last year we might be able to tempt him.
If hes fit he will be an excellent signing, has a magic left foot, excellent dead ball specialist as well.
No doubt i will be dissapointed again though.

My optimism for the coming season is fading fast, we have got rid of big earners and lost our loan players, yet we still dont seem to be in with a shout for anyone who might cost a bean. Dick Knight said expenses were much cheaper in Div 2 and we are paying the same for our season tickets as last season which is more than last time in Div 2.

Where is all the bloody money? The 2 main players we were up for, Hunt and Robbo, that wouldve really improved the squad have gone and we are looking at a 20 year old that played for Kingston. I dont want to break the bank but surely we can afford a few grand for some quality? This is pants!
