I Hope Derby Win This Match...

Derby have confirmed their intention to fight the writ issued by former manager John Gregory which could cost the club more than £2million.

Gregory is suing the Pride Park outfit over his sacking last month which came after he was suspended by the Rams following "serious allegations" made against him.

He is expected to argue that the terms of his contract entitled him to an estimated £2million to be paid within four weeks were he sacked before June 2004.

Gregory is also expected to insist on payment of a reported £134,668 in deferred salary and pension sums.

But Derby are preparing to challenge Gregory's claims, and a statement on the club's official website read: "Derby County can confirm that former manager John Gregory has launched legal proceedings against the club.

"Derby County will vigorously defend the proceedings issued against it and the matter is in the hands of the club's solicitors."
