There's a big number 25 on the Currys sign in the old photo. So unless they've renumbered the street, which I guess is always possible, it's on the site of a fitness centre called New Fit Studio that occupied 24-25 York Place until it was put up for sale recently

There's a pub in the background called the Steam Packet that might provide a clue. Doesn't look like Brighton

What's that galloping up the pavement behind the lady in the second photo? Looks for all the world like a miniature horse and jockey

Always struck me walking past that building that it looked very pub-shaped. I wonder if it was a pub before it was a set of hairdresser & newsagent shops?

For younger viewers, there used to be a little ice rink where that white hotel in the third photo now stands. Used to take my kids skating there in the late 80s/early 90s. Can't quite remember now, but I think it may have succumbed to a classic Brighton mystery fire

I'm guessing that many guests of the Adelphi Hotel would be somewhat less than thrilled with their direct views of a car showroom :lolol:

The North Laine area did seem positively DICKENSIAN at the time for sure

Seem to recall that when the new shirts appeared in the Queens Road shop 'a friend' used to always just grab the biggest size on the rack. Including one time a 5XL

There was a cinema there right up until the early 80s when it was made into a Burger King. Right up til then, the manager used to come out on to the stage in a dinner jacket and introduce the film  When Burger King first opened, there was a cinema room out the back where they'd show kids...

The Ocean Rooms? Can't remember what it was called before that but I had my stag night there

All these drab generic builds going up all over town. B&H being progressively twinned with Anytown
