It’s not a read 3 or 4 pages and put it down. It’s a sit down for a proper reading session and get into rhythm with it. Not going to say it isn’t a bit challenging, but actually we’ll worth it once your brain engages with the style. Got to say I’m really enjoying it now, but first 1/3rd of it...
Finally got round to getting stuck into this one, lovely book. I particularly liked the description of peaches after a period without food as 'wedges of wet sunshine'.
Having loved the two books you mention, may give this one a look.
Currently reading Seveneves by Neal Stephenson, incredible read. Not the sort of book if you don't like your orbital mechanics explained to you in wonderful detail, but if you do, this is simply an amazing book of human endeavour...
Just finished Station Eleven by Emily St.John Mandel. Brilliantly written, simple, but completely absorbing. Very original take on the post apocalyptic genre.
He's supposedly got a new book out next year called Seveneves that sounds along similar lines to Anathem. Brilliant novelist, been meaning to read the Baroque Cycle again too.
Broken Homes - Ben Aaronovitch
Book 4 in this Rivers of London series. Love his descriptions of the hidden layers of London. Gritty crime drama meets Harry Potter with a sprinkle of Peter Ackroyd.
A brilliant book, couldn't put it down. A game changer/genre creator. That Sprawl trilogy (Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive) followed by the Bridge Trilogy (Virtual Light, Iduro and All Tomorrows Parties), are some of the best cyberpunk/science fiction you could wish to read.
3 pages on the birth of his son, then a sentence at the end with "I also have a daughter." with a footnote at the bottom of the page – >called denise. Great continuity with references to all the early radio chat shows, the slots on The Day Today etc. Really enjoying it.
Just finishing my first Peter James novel, Dead Man's Footsteps. Really enjoyed it, reminded me of William Gibson's style with the chopping up of the various narratives and timelines.
Could I humbly suggest a small review / synopsis of the books people are reading when they post, would be good for recommendations etc.
I'm currently reading Monopoly, by Tim Moore http://www.amazon.co.uk/Do-Not-Pass-Go-Mayfair/dp/0099433869/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1308082811&sr=1-2...
just finished 'rivers of london' by ben aaronovitch, loved it, an adult Harry Potter if you like. An often funny, thrilling, frightening journey chasing a possessed murderer around the capital.
