Love the bulldozer carrying on working in the middle - with a truck on the roundabout. Nowadays that would be traffic-lights, a weeks road closure and queues.

Southview Road. Until they stopped up the entrances from Old Shoreham Road, the 49A used to come down Southview Road - but went back up Cross Road and Underdown Road. The 49 went via Park Lane and Kingston Lane both ways. If only folk putting things on ebay would take better photos!!

My back lane up here in Cumbria. Came from an open day at Southdown Bus Depot in Victoria Road back in the mid 1970s. And to fit the thread

The blue and white 49A used to come down my road in Southwick for many years - which was oddly quite exciting when I was a nipper.

I've seen one like that somewhere - can't remember where now. But I remember being equally amazed, and sure I've got a photo of it somewhere. Engineering marvels.

I've often wondered that. Have a look at Francis Frith old photos https://www.francisfrith.com/search - there's a real mix of things that you can understand, like tourist sites and so on. But there's also an awful lot of street scenes, which are just street scenes. I guess a lot of it was...

I guess that takes me back to my query of 'why the question mark?' - which does make it look as though maybe you are a little unsure. When you're obviously not!
