The Institute Stephen King.
I used to be a big Stephen King fan, but, he really went off the boil when he was going through his cocaine addiction.
The Tommyknockers was about the last one of his I read, and that was a struggle.
The Institute was a recommend from my daughter, and it appears...
I used to love Stephen King’s books, The Stand is a particular favourite, however he seemed to lose it a bit around the time of It and the Tommyknockers. I seem to recall it was about the same time as he admitted to being over fond of the Colombian marching powder.
Is this a return to form?
To kill a mockingbird.
Never read it before, better than I thought it would be, but, the frequent use of the n word is very jarring with modern day sensibilities.
Working my way through George Orwell.
Some I read 40ish years ago, some I’m reading for the first time.
Just finished Down and out in Paris and London, and just started Homage to a Catalonia.
They are.
I finally finished The Border over lockdown, but , I had started it this time last year. I had an operation that had some quite uncomfortable side effects and I started having nightmares about the book, so, I stopped reading it, and read books not as hard hitting.
Making my way through the Slough House books by Mick Herron.
Basically, they are modern spy stories but with a dry, sardonic twist to them. I’m on the fourth now, Spook Street, having read the first 3. I’m really enjoying them.
A god awful Andy McNab booking kindle called Red Notice.
I’m trying out new authors, or ones I haven’t read for a while, to try and find some more that I like.
I won’t be reading anymore Andy McNab.
A recommendation here for Stuart McBride, I’ve read all of his, for the most part he’s excellent.
Maybe one or two a bit gory, Fleshouse for example, but, he’s worth reading.
I’ve just finished The Power of the Dog by Don Winslow.
Cracking book about the narco wars of the 70s-80s, including CIA involvement in political assassinations, corruption etc.
I’m going to start the sequel, The Cartel now.
