So here we are again. Anyone got anything started yet? Got my leeks and onion seeds in on the heat mat and under lights. Won't be long before potting the dahlia tubers up ready for cuttings.
I've got a big (5 x 1m) propagating bench that's going to be built in the Rockery chalet with...
It's been one of the nicest weeks at work for a long time.
About 4 years ago, we replanted a lot of our old, tired flowerbeds with a wide range of summer flowering herbaceous perennials. They've grown like mad but these plants need splitting up every 3-5 years or they will stop flowering.
So...
Along the London road, bottom of South street by the traffic lights. there's an absolutely beautiful Paulownia growing out of the road!!! It's about 4 foot high and has huge leaves :lolol:
So Saturday just gone (2nd) was the local village show in the sleepy village of East Hoathly, East Sussex. Unfortunately, it coincided with my dad's 80th birthday party so I had about an hour to present stuff in the show.
I wanted to mainly show dahlias and have been busy growing varieties...
After a slow start, it's probably one of the best years i've seen for insects. Had a walk round the Rockery last week and it was absolutely teeming with life.

If you ever get any Tetrapanex suckers come up and you'd like to donate one to the Rockery in Preston Park, i'm sure we could sort something for a swap
If anyone drives between Lewes and Falmer on the A27, it appears there's been a bit of Guerilla gardening on the central reservation. Loads of poppies, cornflowers and oxeye daisies. Looks absolutely lovely
It's a Plectranthus (unless they've changed its name) and usually a trailing plant. It's almost bomb-proof.

You won't need to mate, they seed everywhere.
If it's yours or a clients, trace it back to the roots and dig it out. The roots are deep and very hard to get out. Or...trace it back, cut it back at ground level and then spray the new growth with glyphosate. Whatever you do, don't let it...
Has anyone noticed a huge lack of bees this year? I grow lots of bee friendly plants....Nepeta, Salvia, Echium, Geranium, Persicaria etc and im struggling to find a single bumble bee at the moment. Don't think ive seen any honey bees either. Usually these plants are smothered in bees in...
Wonderful photos of Wisley....probably one of my favourite places on earth.
Went to Kew on Thursday. Apart from being treated to the jubilee fly past, I took a tour on the electric train and saw parts of Kew ive not seen in 40 years of going.
Well worth the trip.
