  1. The Antikythera Mechanism

    [Help] Gardeners Question Time.

A few clusters of leaves were falling when I took the photo this morning. There was a squirrel up there though. It’s just that I’ve never seen this before.

One of our oaks is dropping a lot of new leaf clusters. Never seen this before, any ideas why this is happening?

The problem is that no one else wants to do it. On your hands a knees crawling through bushes digging out bramble roots and the removing the bramble growth that in my case reaches up to 5m isn’t something I’d wish on anyone.

I went through Checkatrade and the other companies weren’t really interested in weeding let alone bramble removal.

That’s why I was asking. If it’s a 9 hour day that equates to £30/hr and the owners OH&P will be in that, no VAT. Cleaners round here charge £20/ hr.

Thanks for the reply. Since posting I’ve had a gardener round who said exactly the same thing and will make a start in a week or so. He charges £540 a day for a two person team, which doesn’t sound too bad to me, bearing in mind what a horrible job it is. What do you think?

That’s the trouble, I can’t get to the roots as they’re entwined around and between the those of the shrubs.

Is there any way of getting rid of invasive brambles / wild roses? I have them growing through rhododendrons, laurels other shrubs and even hanging out of the tops of fir trees. I can't get to the roots or even the base of the buggers without getting shredded.

Bamboo has suddenly sprouted like mad, despite having a root barrier. Guess there’s not much I can do apart from cutting it back?

    Will do. Thanks again

Many thanks for your input and recommendations. I've got a tree surgeon and cherry picker booked in for October.

Any tips on how to trim a climbing hydrangea? My house is resembling a Hobbit hole.

I have a lot of climbing hydrangea on our house, not sure how to trim it. Don’t know why they’ve come out sideways ??? There’s Virginia creeper there too.
