Yes, from my experience, watch Aljazeera with caution. I accept that it may sometimes be putting forward accurate news that I’d rather not hear but they also have a number of apologists for Putin who simply shouldn’t be given air time by anyone.
I’m a fan of Bill Browder. I watched his recent appearance at a parliamentary committee (sorry don’t know how to provide a link) when he strongly argued for the confiscation ( not just freezing) of Russian assets to pay for the defence of Ukraine. In simple terms he asked whether it was more...
I’m in a hotel overseas with only Aljazeerah as a tv news source. It’s interesting (and disappointing) to see a number of western pundit apologists for Putin. Apparently, according to them, Putin has no intention of invading any other countries- Ukraine is a special case…..so that’s all right then.
I saw the BBC report on Russia putting on public display some of the military equipment it had captured / destroyed from various different countries. Seems a bit of a desperate thing to do, feeling they need to continue to justify the war to their own people and demonstrate their success against...
DW News is reporting the arrest of 2 Russian spies in southern Germany near a US base. Arrested for planning sabotage of defence supplies to Ukraine (sorry I can’t provide a link)
Georgia is a relatively small country (4m population?) but an important buffer for Russia. Let’s hope it doesn’t kick off there - already been too much unnecessary killing by Putin - but hope also that Georgia doesn’t roll over to Russian threats.
US support is obviously important, but it shouldn’t be conditional on not attacking Russian assets in Russia. The recent Ukrainian drone attacks within Russia are to be applauded and encouraged - they send a message to the Russian people and Putin’s inner circle that they’re not invincible or...
Multiple reports of an attack by a large drone on a Russian Shaheed drone factory in Yelabuga, Tatarstan.
Wow, Yelabuga is around 800 miles into Russia. Impressive.
Yes, I’m not sure my first choice escape route would be to head for a war zone. But for reasons that others have explained it suits Putin’s internal PR machine to link it to Ukraine.
Wonderful. Won’t alter the result of course, but great to see worldwide publicity to show that inspite of the internal PR machine not everyone in Russia supports Putin. Well done to those brave refuseniks
I’m sort of surprised that the bbc reporter the excellent Steve Rosenberg hasn’t been kicked out of Russia yet. His reports are always couched with doubt and cynicism about anything said or done by the Russian regime. Long May it continue
