[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

My best advice is don't retire. Do what you know to be right and have a bit of fun with the lunatics when the chance arises. Here is some correspondence from today with some bits redacted for obvious reasons: Them: "We are preparing Period 2 marksheets by downloading available exam marks. We...

Well I could define myself as the master of sarcasm and wit......but..... (you can guess the rest).

Yes, I can't disagree with that. What I would say to anyone interested in doing research is: crack on. Most of the 'noise' in academia is by-passable. And there are all sorts of opportunities to consult, edit a journal, etc, to bolster income. Yes, the landscape is disappointing, but the one...

I agree. Not sure what I think about state pension. I start getting mine in 5 days, FFS! I probably qualify for other goodies too (benefits, this time) such as free travel on omnibuses, but I'm too busy on NSC and marking exam papers to check. I read somewhere that the NHS sends round a...

Your comment was made in the context of means testing state pensions, where you note that there are lots of well off pensioners as well as poor ones, making it perfectly reasonable for one to assume you are in favour of means testing state pensions: Perhaps if you made a tiny bit more effort...

My point is that matey seemed to be suggesting people can be well of because of state pensions. Alone. That's nonsense. If they have worked long enough to pay off a mortgage, and live simply, like an 80 year old pal of mine, they can be OK. But his house is cold in winter because he can't afford...

Good points. On private pensions, when I started as a lecturer (in fact before that, when I was a post doc) I was automatically signed into USS. I think I was automatically registered with the AUT union too. Around that time the Tories encouraged folk to opt out of workplace pensions and...

Private pensioners. There are no people reliant on state pension who are well off.

State pensions, paid for by a specific tax (NI) and paid out on the basis of what one has paid in is not a benefit. Winter fuel payments is not an 'example' of a means tested pension. It is a means tested benefit. State pension is not a benefit.

I seem to recall....was he the absolute melt that claimed he could start an internet wank business for 30 P and still get a taxi home to his mum? Or something. f***ing arse wipes the lot of them, Tory MPs of the current intake. Dead to me.

Who is 30P? (I guess the answer is....er...no :lolol: ) (I don't follow the comings and goings in cat litter Ask my cat)

They are not rivals, so who would have noticed. Had she decided to stand in the GE for reform, she may have pinched some tory votes. Maybe. So, er, yeah, I guess you're right. But she's not standing anyway, so... m'eh

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

I honestly have no idea. There is f*** all any of the parties can do about it anyway, and any proselytizing is just sanctimonious dog whistling for purposes of vote harvesting. Just to illustrate the absurdity of the 'Team Palestine' and 'Team Israel' activists, one of the Israeli government...

Well I like the narrative (that a right wing tory gave Sunk the maximum possible "f*** OFF" before f***ing off herself). She is not contesting the seat. Under those circumstances it would have been petty and peevish for Starmer to tell her to do one. I'm sure the extreme left and extreme right...

I think @jcdenton08 meant 'reveal' the plans after the election. That's what I would do. The more the Tories spaff nonsense, the more I'd step back and raise an eyebrow.

As a rule of thumb, when the Tories Demand that Labour do X or Y, the best plan is always Z.
