I managed to end up with a copy of De Bello Gallico, also stamped with Property of Varndean Grammar School for Boys - that went to the charity shop. All those years with Winker Watson paid off, I can still read a fair bit of Latin

TBH, I'm not sure Sanchez would have. (you make a good point though)

It wasn't a fluke though: the same thing happened to Huddersfield and to a certain extent to Hull (not in league position but they reached the FA Cup final), a few years earlier, Reading also followed a successful first season with a relegation. It's not entirely unknown for a team to have a...

Have they started above people's expectations? They've won two (against possibly the worst two teams in the division), lost two and drawn one. The only result that was unexpected was the draw (but then, some people may have expected them to beat Wolves). I think they're performing pretty much as...

They hardly nicked Sidwell. Wasn't that the same situation as Ben White? Just because he played for us on loan that was no guarantee of us signing him. The same with Ingmarsson, And you can scarcely blame Coppell for going either. He was going to a club a division higher with a modern stadium...

Did we really have that much of an issue with Reading? Cheaterfield blew over because we very quickly in different divisions - and found ourselves further and further apart.I think that may have simmered for some time if that hadn't been the case.

Posts like that are mind-boggling. Why doesn't he think for a second? Brighton have an asset worth, at the moment, something like £30m but with the potential to go much, much higher. Why on earth would a club seek to destroy an asset like that? You don't have to be an acute tactical genius to...

I believe that Diffbrook lives in Leeds (or close by) Leeds really isn't a bad place but their supporters do seem to be utter bellends

It's a bit of a diversion but I was thinking this the other day: how many other clubs in the top two divisions do have an owner who's an actual fan of the club? Burnley are one. Any more? Huddersfield? Stoke? I lose track of all the comings and goings

I'm not. Southgate said Phillips was in because it was an area where they didn't have many options (let's put his prejudice against Grealish aside). Jamaica were also sniffing around and maybe Southgate wanted not to lose a possible player. Neither of those applies to White: there are lots of...

I do keep seeing this and, while I agree with the general sentiment, it's not factually accurate. BW wasn't Leeds POTS but he was their young player of the season (Hernandez was POTS)

If Liverpool fans came on here and said they'd be challenging to win the league - they wouldn't be deluded If Liverpool fans came on here and said they'd be challenging for Europe - they wouldn't be deluded If Liverpool fans came on here and said that Ben White is good enough to play for them -...

And ignoring the fact that BW is not for sale. (I'm sure that TB will be tempted by a silly bid but it ain't gonna be £20m)

I see that the Leeds fans are now claiming that Koch is a better deal for them as they can get him for 10m euros. Does this ring true? Leeds offered about £25m for a White, a player with no top flight experience, but can a get a player who's a full German international for a third of the price?

I wasn't thinking that there'd be a specific Bosman law but Bosman happened because of FoM legislation. I wonder whether that has or will be rescinded. I don't know but if the government wants to purge EU laws, FoM would be a good place to start.

Which is why I wrote that the UK government would have to rescind them. I can't see any club trying this on unless they've been repealed but if the government does want to purge EU laws from the statute book, then this is a real possibility

EU. UEFA was against the Bosman ruling - they wanted an exemption for footballers

I didn't know about that, I was thinking purely in terms of White buying himself out of his contract, One thing that no-one has mentioned in this saga, as far as I can see, is what happens in January when we leave the EU. Players have freedom of movement because of EU regulations (that's how...

I was thinking whether that was a possibility. Leeds could bung White the £1500k to buy himself out of his contract and walk away but Brighton would still hold his registration and wouldn't release it, so I'm not sure that's the solution. And I'm no lawyer but I'm pretty sure that Leeds doing...

I find this strange - he was a pretty big name in world football before he turned up at Leeds, it was seen as something of a coup to get him. You don't get unknowns managing the likes of Argentina, Roma and Marseille. For all the banter about Leeds, no-one can deny that he's an impressive manager
