    The line closed to passenger traffic (apart from the occasional 'special' referred to in the link) on 31st. December 1932. My Dad rode to and from Kemp Town on that last day - I still have his ticket! Incidentally, for a time my Uncle was the signalman in the box at the junction where the branch...

    The diesel buses on the right hand side are mostly Southdown. The colours in this photo are a bit dodgy - the Southdowns were light green (not a sort of light orange/yellow!) - and the trolley buses were a much brighter red too.

    Yes. Obviously they could only travel on streets where there were wires, but within those limits they could manoevre sufficiently to move round obstructions like parked vehicles, cyclists, etc.

    Emissions. End of - well, nearly. Also cleaner and quieter, and much more powerful - so well suited to the hills of Brighton. Elm Grove? What gradient? Also could manoevre around obstructions in a way trams could never do.

    Just like I remember it! It seemed a lot less congested back then - and oh, those wonderful trolley buses! What a disaster it was to scrap the trolley bus system.

    There were lifebelts and also, I believe, life rafts. Anyway, it was safe enough - my Grandma had a ride on it and survived!
