I'm at a total loss as to what to do with my running. Tweaked my cartilage in January, physio did not work, so went in for operation in July. Surgeon said it was a stage 2-3 tear, said he cleared it up. Have been back to physio since then, but funding was cut so just work out in the gym. Last...

Im not a proper runner unlike you guys of whom I'm totally in awe but the great thing is that you can set personal goals. I'm aiming for 1,000 miles and currently at 950 so fairly confident. At start of year my aims were sub 24 5k (managed 23:35), sub 50 10k (49:12) sub 1:50 half (only at...

Dublin marathon three days away, my second but also my last (unless I want a divorce according to Mrs EP). In terms of carb loading, is it pasta, brown bread, chicken, baked potatoes etc?

I have a spare for the Robin Hood Half in Nottingham if anyone wants it. Struggling at present to get beyond 15 and have Dublin marathon in six weeks, so need to fully focus on long slow longer runs between then and now. Race is Sunday week, lovely course through the city starting by the...

If anyone wants to run the Robin Hood half marathon in Nottingham Sunday 25 September for FREE just drop me a line. I have already entered but something else has cropped up. I can post you out my race number. Ran it last year and a great race around the city.

Following a program for Dublin Marathon at end of October. It will be my second (and last according to Mrs EP) and have managed longest run of 17 miles so far. Now convinced myself it's beyond me to run the full distance, and the memories of when things went wrong at Brighton 2015 when I lost...

I know this is a long chance but is anyone else running the Dublin marathon at the end of October?

I have a 630 as mentioned. Originally had a 620 but went for the 630 as it has a function that takes you back to your start point. Having the sense of direction of a goldfish, combined with living 3 months travelling each year, I get lost very easily. The GPS takes longer to kick in than the...

I was similar with mine. The morning after the first run in them I had terrible problems with my Achilles' so decided to give them a miss. I brought both them and the Nimbus's to Brighton, and, because the conditions were so promising, gave them an airing as have been stuck in the 51-53 minute...

My lawyer advises me not to answer that question. Thanks very much for the DS Racer tip. Mersey Spring 10k in two weeks. Will contemplate the shaved legs but may be subject to ridicule. On the PLUS side it will make things easier when I go to see the Rocky Horror Show in a few weeks and...

Well done to all who did the 26.2 yesterday, amazing efforts one and all. Feel a bit of a fraud on this thread as only ran the BM10k. Would like to thank the NSC'er who suggested changing my running shoes from Asics Nimbus 17 to DS Racer 11's for the race to improve my time. Felt noticeably...

Out of interact, are most NSC runners members of running clubs? If not would it be useful to set up our own club and affiliate to UKAA? That way we'd benefit from (small) discounts on entry fees on races, which would pay for membership etc. Could even go further and have our own colours for...

I was fortunate. Brother in law owns a few horses. Advised me a couple were looking good. Second place at 11/2 followed by reinvesting the money on another at 14/1 paid for the 630. It's a great piece of kit, no doubt overpriced but effectively only cost me £20.

I've only had the 630 a few days, so still building up the data to do the calculations.

I bought the 630 with the HRM. It is an indulgence, but as a lover of stats, I enjoy downloading the data and reviewing it. Doesnt't make me a better runner, just a more informed one. The 630 is what the Apple Watch should be, as it buzzes every time I have a message from Strava, FB,LinkedIn...

Try a week or two of running without Garmin and it is very liberating and enjoyable (although I've just ordered the 630 and will be geeking out more than ever when it arrives). When you return to it your times will be a lot better.

At least we know what Ben's Granddad does when he's not posting on NSC. You're probably right that I could have tapered more prior to the half. I've joined a running club and my miles are fairly low compared to theirs, although they are all entered for the Manchetster Marathon this Sunday (I'm...

Wilmslow half marathon. Great local race and was able to run past my front door in a field of 4,000. More undulating than hilly, but my weakness on slopes is something I need to address. 1 52:05 which was disappointing as 24 seconds slower than Brighton even though I felt better.
