It must have been there after Charrington's bought out Kemp Town Brewery as there seems to be Toby Jug stickers on the windows and doors?

Interesting that the houses in the Edwardian? photo don't seem to have been compelled to paint the exteriors cream.

With regard to the Steine Street photo, I can vaguely remember going with my parents to the Southdown Garage to catch a coach to London (I think). In those days Pool Valley would have been too full of buses to be used as a coach station.

Was it Pickford's depository? I can remember them having an office near the station end of Queen's Road. I remember as a child seeing toy removal vans in the window.

Thank you for proving that my memory still exists even in my advanced age. With regard to Rosling's, my parents often shopped there as they accepted Provident Cheques. The cost of a one pound cheque was paid to a collector who came to the house every week for one shilling for 21 weeks. At that...

Is there anyone who can confirm (or not) that on the corner where Aldi is now, there was a Woolworth with a smaller Sainsbury next door. Eventually Woolworth moved further north in London Road and Sainsbury redeveloped the combined stores. Additionally the 'new' Woolworth was on the site of a...

I wonder if the older photo was taken during or just after WW2. The images are not very sharp but some of the people on the right of the picture seem to be in uniform. I don't remember Brighton at this period but in Worthing there were huge adverts asking people to salvage items (what today we...

What was called the Brighton "A" Power Station after the more recent "B" Power Station was built in the 1950s and on whose site is the present Power Station. Beyond the Power Station in the photo it is just possible to see the Gas Works. All three plants existed in my younger days. I don't...
