It might be common but I struggle when people don't take both the candidate and their party's manifesto into consideration when voting. Rather than the my great grandfather voted x, my grandfather voted x and my father voted x - so I'll vote x regardless. Just strikes me as the lazy and sheep...
It used to be that the person running the local police was selected by a cross section of local councillors. Politics still involved I grant you but in my eyes a more balanced way of doing it. KB claims THOUSANDS in salary just for toeing the party line and achievng diddy squat.
So if I voted or spoilt my ballot paper do you think it will stop the police being run by a politician ? I'd rather not vote than be complicit in the corruption.

A close to zero percent turnout could also change things. Every main political party supports the PCC elections ( it's another chance for power ) so even if I spoil my ballot paper it would make zero difference ( and unlike real elections, there is no requirement to read out words added to a...
