    [Misc] Retirement

Apologies if I didn't explicitly state, but Mrs SS has her own SIPP too. Of course I couldn't use my SIPP to pay someone else. Worth bearing in mind though, when paying in to a SIPP that putting all your eggs in one basket could close off some tax efficient drawdown options in retirement.

He did run some simple numbers. The key one I can't see mentioned in your response is the 25% tax free you can take from your SIPP. Lump sum not always the right choice. Example, assuming no other income, you can be drawing down £16,760k - so tax only due on 75% which keeps it to £12,570...

My IFA told me that the SIPP was more tax efficient overall than the ISA but once you start drawdown MPAA limits [currently £3,800 pa] new money going into the SIPP so the ISA becomes 2nd best [20k limit pa]. As said by other posters, it all depends on individual circumstances and getting...

    [Misc] Retirement

Getting £1m into a pension pot if you start young and make reasonable contributions for your [40 year] working life - with some good investment growth and maybe an employer contribution. Whilst this new change may have and inheritance tax saving, anyone drawing it out [as a pensioner] will...

    [Misc] Retirement

When the chancellor last tinkered, can anyone remember the "no change age" threshold? By that I mean, how close to retirement might one be to expect it NOT to be changed. I'm 62 now and my state retirement age is 66 - Surely to god that is locked? Perhaps if under 30 now might find it moves to...

    [Misc] Retirement

SIPP Vs Annuity is interesting, whilst the SIPP can run dry before you die, the Annuity dies with you [or maybe your spouse]. So for me [at higher risk of early death] the SIPP is preferable as whatever I don't get spend goes into my estate for the missus or kids.

    [Misc] Retirement

I fully retired at 61, just a year ago now. I went part-time at 47 - IT contracting, and in the 15 years until I fully retired, I actually worked just over 8 of them, so considered this semi-retirement. In reality, it was all about work-life balance - I worked hard in bursts [3/9 months...

    [Misc] Retirement

That is truly lovely to hear - but just a word of caution - please don't bank on it. It sounds like you may be his nearest living family, so the risk is that if he needs to go into care, the cost of that could eat up all bar about £14k of his net worth including putting a lien on his property...
