    Probably the most important statement regarding retirement, several people I know passed away either just before they were due to retire or very quickly after they did. If you are in a position to retire do it, there is loads to occupy your time.

    This is so true, three people I worked with passed away just before of very soon after they retired. A lot of decisions on retirement must also include you as the individual.

    Good valid point about downsizing as may release more cash, something as yet to be considered in the Hut household however three years down the line from retirement haven't spend any of the tax free lump sum

    I didn't, however, I got a pretty healthy tax-free lump sum of which some will be used when required to get the two kids on the property ladder.

    Been retired over three years now and Mrs downed her hours severely last October. Mortgage was paid off a year or so prior to retirement and only one kid was still at home with half a Uni year left. I think the most important thing is have a plan but as others have stated it takes time to...
