    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Ok, thanks. Your explanation of how the land lies on the Ukraine/Belarus border does suggest that an attack from that front is unlikely, if not impossible. I had wondered this. Also, I do remember hearing reports that Wagner forces had been sent back to base camp in Ukraine, not onto Belarus...

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Not so sure any of that is true at all. There were two quite plausible explanations put by Radio 5 callers earlier, suggesting Putin comes out of this stronger. 1. Increasingly rogue Wagner group tamed. Prighozin exiled to Belarus whilst a large chunk of his forces are absorbed into the...

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

There was a caller to Any Answers on Radio 4 at the weekend that claimed that current sanctions on Russian Banks are meaningless at the moment. He said that only a handful among 'hundreds' of Russian banks had been sanctioned so far in regards to using Swift. He was able to refund money very...

Yeah, because that worked out really well for Libya.

Agreed on your point about Sovereign nations deciding what they do for themselves. Shame that right isn't afforded to all nations. But then I'm back to whataboutery I suppose

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Which then begs the next question. How long were NATO active in Ukraine before the 2014 invasion? See where this is going? All a bit chicken and egg.

It wasn't my intention to post twice. It was a mistaken duplicate. Listen to the interview. You'll find out.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Professor Michael Clarke, former director of Royal United Services Institute, on Radio 4 Today's Programme, this morning from 1hr 14 minutes in. Interesting what he says about some of the weapons Ukraine has at its disposal and how some would take weeks of NATO training to use, which he...

That sounds like a great plan. I mean, It's not like the USA are in the habit of attacking sovereign nations to facilitate regime change. Oh.

Exactly! Regarding your first point that is.

Personally, and I realise this probably goes against the grain, but I'm not in favour of banning such channels. RT News is clear propaganda from Russia, obviously, but then I don't pretend that other channels exist in a cultural vacuum either. I'd rather hear all sides and make up my own mind.

I read that BJ said he would ban it if he could. But I've just found this, which confirms the EU ban, like you said: https://www.broadbandtvnews.com/2022/03/02/russia-today-thrown-off-satellite-and-dtt-in-the-uk/

Has RT News now been officially banned from our TV? I've just tried to watch it on Freesat and it's just coming up as scrambled channel. All the other News channels are working. I know there were moves here to ban it.

    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Yep, clear propaganda, but I'm not naive enough to think that this doesn't happen on both sides. Nick Robinson on BBC radio is almost unlistenable to me.

Does anyone on this thread watch RT News from time to time out of interest?

No, no, we were bringing freedom and democracy to poor oppressed people remember. It certainly had nothing to do with big business and oil. Honest.
