It's an age thing. In my yoof I'd go for the speed, at 17 I bought the RD250 because it was the max I could get on my licence. Then other sports bikes inc a 1,000cc 'widowmaker'. Plus a couple of enduro bikes which were fun rides.
As I got older, it's more about the pleasure than the speed...
My last sports bike was TL1000, got to the age where getting off I'd be in pain in the arms, wrists, back and knees. Decided the pain outweighed the pleasure. Oh the joys of getting older. Loved it tho.
Still, I consoled myself with buying a Harley a few years ago.
I've got a 2017 Harley and I always let it tick over for a couple of mins before I go. My reasoning was that, like me, the bike runs better when warm.
It may or may not improve the life by reducing wear, but in my mind the engine is designed to run hot, being air cooled I don't need the water...
My brothers first bike was a C90 at the ripe old age of 13. We lived in a small village then. He stripped the plastic faring off and as much of the rest he could. I had a KE100 and being 14 we could only take them off road. Fortunately there were a few paths and tracks we'd use for biking on...
Wow i never saw one of those before, they are cool.
Mk2 Cortina was my first car. I had a 250RD (air cooled) which got nicked and bought the Cortina from the insurance money. Had a girlfriend at the time who didn't like going on the back of the bike and was sick of travelling 10 miles to work...
Of course being in a car crash is safer than a motorbike crash. However a sensible rider can anticipate others actions and be ready to react to stupidity (cars pulling out etc..) But this doesn't detract from the fun and enjoyment from riding bikes. Been riding on and off for 40 years, only...
I had a Puch Magnum. Thought it was cool at the time. Followed by a RD250 back in the day of 250s on L plates with no test. Scary thought now.
Got a new Harley Breakout - love it. Go on it to most home games if the weather's ok.
