Big Special were also my festival highlight - just bloody brilliant.
We saw Kneecap twice, and they were also superb.
But we saw so much good stuff. It blows me away how much young talent we have in this country.
They are Felix and Hugo White from The Maccabees and their brother Jamie, along with a drummer. I’ve seen them twice - not earth-shatteringly brilliant, but they’re good performers and put on a good show. I am going to this.
Yes, it is incomprehensible really. I think this is going to get very messy.
Thank God Glastonbury think more carefully about who they partner up with!
It’s hard to guess who’s going to turn up, or whether it will go ahead at this point.

That’s fair enough. We all like different things.
They move me. Lyrically brilliant, joyous, positive and just plain fun.
Looking forward to seeing them again at Glastonbury.

Have you got the Dice app? Since Resident stopped listing gigs, Dice has been far and away the best way to find out what’s on at all venues in Brighton (and anywhere else). Download it!
I’ve got Resident instores by Gruff Rhys and The Last Dinner Party coming up.
Proper gigs booked so far:
DakhaBrakha, The Luka State, Beans on Toast, 86TVs, Yard Act…
The Great Escape, Glastonbury.

It's been pretty busy at Chalk for the Mahones and friends recently.
A fortnight ago:
Mutations Friday - Porridge Radio were the best that I have seen them, really excellent. Public Service Broadcasting were very accomplished, but I do find their uber-geekiness a little irritating.
Mutations...
Just back from Resident, seeing the rather euphoric Barry Can’t Swim. It was great, and the shop was rocking.
Me and Mrs Mahone were comfortably the oldest people there.
I did have a bucket hat, the same as that…but that’s not me! Mine has Albion 1901 on the top, that one has 55.
I didn’t see him!
You’re right, it was lightweight on the musical side, but we saw great sets by The Murder Capital, Pulp, Young Fathers, Black MIDI amongst others.
It was fun.
I...
Haha, yes, I know what you mean. This was how I used to feel.
But friends of ours messaged us when Pulp were announced as headliners suggesting we all go, so we all thought ‘why not?’, particularly as we are teachers and it was just after term finished.
With the right company, it is great fun...
We went to Latitude this year. Great fun…but it pissed down all day on the Saturday.
Mid afternoon, we went to the Sunrise Arena, cold, wet and miserable - we went there as that stage has a marquee so we could spend a little bit of time in the dry.
We’d been there about fifteen minutes when...
