On Friday 21st May, after an hour's run, my Achilles started playing up, and was very painful, meaning I couldn't run even if I'd have wanted to. My goalkeeping skills were brought back to life as I couldn't play outfield when I played football. I'd just recovered from a Soleus injury and got...

Having recovered really well from my well-documented soleus injury, I've now done something to an achilles. Literally one minute before the end of my hour run Wednesday before last, I felt something not quite right above my left ankle. I had this before about twenty years' ago. It took months...

True story; I was cycling up that slope a year or so ago, and was overtaken by a bloke running, pushing a baby in a buggy!

Excuse my running parlance ignorance, but does that mean if lots of people did it together, people would drop out after getting shagged-out, and the winner would still be up and running, or does this mean something else, like toughening you up to confront Ann Robinson?!:smile:

This morning, I went from Bedford Street to the Pier, along Madeira Drive, up Dukes Mound, along the Butterfly Walk, back on to Madeira Drive and back to Dukes Mound. In order to get some slopes in, I went back up Dukes Mound and the same circular route back to the bottom of Dukes Mound (Ooh...

My weekly run today was for an hour. An increase of 5 minutes from last week. At the half-way point of my 55 minute run last week, I'd reached about 30 yards short of Ovingdean roundabout. After 27.5 minutes today, I'd got past the roundabout and another hundred yards, even though I thought I...

That's a good idea. I could do with a new career path, but I think I'll stick with advising people on how to lift and divide Snowdrops and associated stuff. My motivation for restraint was looking at the downside of things if I didn't build up really slowly. Not being able to run would have...

I wanted to run for 55 minutes today, so set off from the bottom of my road and ran east for 27.5 minutes which got me along the cliff-top to just before Ovingdean roundabout, then just turned round and ran back. I really enjoyed it. I feel the best I've felt for ages.

Thanks, but you haven't seen me try to play? I've got the passing ability of David Beckham, the tackling of David Batty, and the vision of David Blunkett!

Thanks one and all for your responses to my recent post. I'll take on board all what you've said, and just keep to what I can do. My soleus problem seems to be a thing of the past already and I'm back to playing two games of football a week now, so it will be one run a week, hopefully for an...

Seeing some of the impressive distances people run on here, double figures for some, I'm embarrassed now to have posted what I thought were impressive runs for me of four to six miles! I think I need to up my game. I very rarely run for more than an hour at a slowish pace. My mission is to...

Cycled to BHASVIC and played football for 90 minutes on Saturday at 80% capacity and again Sunday at 30%. I didn't have the strength to go on my "Recovery bike ride" on Monday! This morning's run, as per the soleus injury recovery programme, I did a bit of slope work which incorporated two runs...

I ran from the Volks Railway terminal by the pier to just past the King Alfred and back this afternoon. Lovely and sunny, not too crowded on the top prom and the aroma of 'erb wafting up from the beaches between the piers was a scent to behold. I ran for 22.5 minutes, turned round and ran...

After my successful 4.5 mins run/ 0.5 mins walk, 50 minute session yesterday, tomorrow I'm going to do my first continuous run this year. I'll aim for 30 minutes at a slow pace and if I feel good, go for a bit longer. Our football games start a week tomorrow, so if all goes well, I'll be...

I'm just coming back from a torn soleus. I too am ultra-wary of doing it again. I've been doing the jog/walk stuff and am now up to 4.5 minutes of running and 0.5 seconds of walking. Yesterday, I met a mate at BHASVIC and we had a kick-about for 2.5 hours. I don't know where the time went...

Thanks. The plan is to go to 4.5 minutes running, 0.5 minutes walking for 50 minutes on Friday. Then on Monday, 30 minutes continuous running, albeit gently. Wednesday 35 minutes and Friday 40 minutes. I'll report my progress next week. If I'd have taken my leg in to the Repair Shop for the...

My recovery from a torn soleus continues. I started the programme by slowly running for 30 seconds and walking for 4.5 minutes. I have been increasing the running and reducing the walking over the last three weeks. Tomorrow, I'll be gently running for 3.5 minutes with 1.5 minutes of walking for...

An update on my soleus injury. Finished the second week of walking / running / walking. My leg is completely pain free, and the soreness to the touch of the soleus muscle has gone. Next week, it's 3.5 minutes of walking, 1.5 minutes of running alternately for 30 minutes, Mon, Wed & Fri. It's...

I've found this really good. https://www.pogophysio.com.au/blog/how-to-rehab-calf-strains-in-runners/ Been doing most of the things it suggests. I've recovered enough to start the walking / running regime. I'm on to the second week of the road back to normality walking and jogging. Today, I'm...
