Yup. I help out coaching the kids at Uckfield. Staying on feet and positioning the trailing foot to intercept the ball should you fail to pick it up with the hand(s) seems to be the direction now. Means you're in position to get a throw away quicker.

Yup. Hopefully I can put in a better bowling effort this week. Was clearly having an off day last weekend.

Uckfield 1st XI at home vs Heathfield Park 2nd. Team selection not confirmed yet, but last I looked in Whatsapp there's only 11 yes's so guessing I'll be playing despite my poor showing last week.

    [Albion] Palmer

Money is one element. Another that a lot seem to forget is ... it doesn't matter who strong a case we put in front of a player if they're simply not interested in joining us (which could be for any number of reasons). I suspect in the case of Palmer he always had his eyes on a bigger club, and...

[Albion] BBC Sport Interview with Paul Barber

I suspect you were picking up on something that became clear when he stropped. He only ever saw us as a stepping stone and the effort he put in probably directly correlated with whether or not his agent was happy with progress towards a future deal.

Albon has signed a new multi-year contract with Williams. Exactly what "multi-year" means remains to be seen; so far they've only confirmed it keeps him there through 2026, but heavily implied it's longer.

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

It's helpful that Mims is switching to the new East Grinstead seat. That'll take the "incumbent" name recognition boost out of the equation for Mid Sussex. I'm in Uckfield, so at some point I'll need to educate myself on who might be best placed to defeat Mims. Was a minefield in previous...

Hence why I said any means testing system needs to be very well designed. Things I would *not* be in favour of includes both of those things you mention here. Actively monitoring bank accounts as part of the means testing is a step too far, IMO, especially given the government has already proven...

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

As much as I really, really hate the current Tory government and the vast majority of their policies, I'd actually be in favour of a well-designed system for means testing recipients of any form of payments from the government. IMO means testing is actually a policy that would benefit the left...

Not the first time this thicko has propagated baseless conspiracy theories, either. She seems to be very, very gullible.

We got trounced yesterday. Pitch was a "lose the toss, lose the game" affair. Damp, green, soft. We made 118/6 from 40, pitch playing low and slow and ball sticking a bit. By the time tea was done, sun had done its job and pitch was firming up. They made the runs in under 20 overs, one of...

Would be good if they standardised it, IMO. Uckfield 2nds last year it was win/lose 40 overs a side for the whole season. But we're pretty low down the ladder. Never did like the win/lose/draw format back when I played with Laughton. Generated some deadly boring games with the side batting...

To be fair, I was probably exaggerating a bit. And it's also historic, so may have changed. Around 10 years ago Laughton had a young leggy who got picked up by the Sussex juniors system. He'd been developing well at Laughton in the 2nd's, and had scope to move up the 1st's if Sussex wanted him...

Ferrari have a big upgrade package coming for Imola. There's a few photos emerged as they've used a filming day to give it a shakedown. They've switched to Red Bull 2024 style sidepod inlets (having started the season with Red Bull 2023 inspired inlets).

Played at Lewes Priory's ground a few years back (my last full season with Laughton in 2015). Was the scene of the one and only 6 I've ever hit in my outdoor cricket career. But what a 6 it was - sent a low full toss on leg stump clean over the trees at midwicket and a replacement ball was...

Off to Nutley tomorrow to play with the Uckfield 1st XI for our first game of the season. Spent the last couple of season as a part-timer for the Uckfield 2nd XI. Finally got a pass from the Mrs to play every match (except those when we're on holiday) this season. Expect I'll bounce between 1st...

This is worth a read: Long and the short of it: no, I don't think the Muslim voter effect is being captured accurately in the polling. Apart from anything else, the areas where the population of Muslim voters is large enough tends to be very localised. Although it might explain why we're...

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

I'll be very, very surprised if it actually happens like that. The polls will, inevitably, close somewhat once the GE is called and campaigning gets underway. The Tories will win back some voters (particularly from Reform), and a lot of currently "shy" Tory voters saying "I don't know" on the...

[Politics] Tory meltdown finally arrived [was: incoming]...

For now, I think we need to give Labour some leeway when it comes to announcing their strategic plans for when they inevitably take over government. For the following reasons: 1. I believe at the current time they have not been granted full access to the data that spells out exactly what...
