Yes, I remember it being FA Cup third round day. It was the day West Ham played mighty Emley AFC at Upton Park and scraped a 2-1 win. That may have been a better game for you to have gone to.
Lawro's goal was amazing but I also remember the last 10-15 minutes when we absolutely battered their goal but just couldn't get an equaliser, their keeper producing worldies etc. Sounds strange, but it was such a good game I didn't mind that much we'd lost - after all, that season was all about...
I'm just waiting for someone to say Japan v South Africa...
Oh, they already have.
Did anyone attend the Olympics match at the Goldstone in 1948 between Afghanistan and Luxembourg?*
(*this did actually happen).
I was watching the footage from that yesterday and re-reading the reports. Even looked at the comments on the match thread on the Man City forum (how sad am I...). That was probably the best individual display by a Brighton team. We were superb, scored the official 'goal of the season', and...
The Amex - 4-0 v United.
The Goldstone - Sheff Weds 3-2 to win promotion, although one of the actual best games I remember was a defeat - 2-3 against Wolves in the FA Cup in the snow.
Did the same, Macclesfield away (1998?). Got the train up and headed to the ground early. Thought it was a bit quiet, but hey it's Macclesfield Town (ave attendance 2,000). Only when I actually got to the turnstiles did I find out it was postponed. Waterlogged pitch - the only match off in the...
Never seen this Big Match footage before of the 'Brighton Brawl'.
Two sendings off (one for Ron Harris), five bookings (unheard of then - these days there'd be 4 or 5 reds judging by some of the tackles!). Commentator was Jimmy Hill - who also does the post-match analysis of the 'disgraceful'...
Weird thing about that decision. We're told it can't go to VAR because the ref had already whistled when the lino's flag went up. Yet a few seasons ago, Man Utd were awarded a penalty at the Amex by VAR after the ref had whistled for full-time. Make it make sense.
As Tom Hark says, definitely an early 80s feel, which I love. Apart from that and the obvious New Order reference, I'm also getting bands like Delphic and Nation of Language. I don't think it feels particularly 'artificial' - and if it does, that's kinda the sound a lot of those bands were...
