They now have only 344 seats so that 80 seat majority is now just 19

since many of his MPs defy him Sunak would struggle to get anything through parliament

Thanks. Though there are always alliances and independents who would side with the government. Not sure where the DUP are at the moment but traditionally they side with the Tories, or at least wouldn’t vote against them. This website gives the *working* majority as 45 but I can’t calculate how that figure's arrived at. Although the majority has shrunk a lot I doubt they’re in any danger of being in a minority as there’s only 6 months or so left in this parliament.

Starmer has done himself no favours by his welcome of her. He’d have had more credibility telling her to p*ss off. She always comes across as a nasty piece of work - probably from having her ex as a role model.

Couldn't Labour just have publicised that they rejected her request to join the party? Or is that some confidentiality/data protection concern.

That way she would look stupid, the Tories would look stupid and Labour wouldn't have embraced one of the most detestable MPs in parliament as one of their own.

How much is one more Labour vote in the Commons really worth at this point?
It's not about the vote it's about making the Tories look even more ridiculous.

Starmer has done this at the expense of upsetting the left of the party, but to fair he's been doing that for ages.

Weird stunt, but has "worked".

That said it does look a bit like a Crystal Palace just in case panic transfer. I'd imagine she'll be sitting on the bench unless Labour have an injury crises and will be released on a free at the end of the season.

Indeed.

It’s been mooted (James O’Brien) that perhaps, there are a number of Tory MPs who’ll be crossing the floor, one-by-one prior to PMQs.

If this is part of a bigger strategy, I’m quite prepared to hold my nose for the next few months happy in the knowledge that she’ll never be part of a Labour Government.

Anything O"Brien spouts is for his own oxygen levels.

No.

She was going to be out of a job by the end of the year, so she's switched sides to save it. Get rid.
<sigh> No she has not.

She is standing down at the next GE.

Not like you to not know the facts

A bit of a sickly feeling Harry.
Could be the curry though.
I am back from watching footy with Bob the retired social worker, labour man, was relaxed about Corbyn, finds Starmer a bit dull:

"What do you think about the new recruit, Bob?"

"I don't like her, but the fact she has defected is quite funny, and shows how the Tories have lost the plot"

So there you have it.

She's standing down at the election. Labour already have a candidate and it won't be her.

Rings up Starmer and says I've had it with this PM and the party, I'm standing down at the next election and would like to pull a stunt at PMQs by walking across to Labour. My natural home is actually the extreme wing of The Reform party but I'm spitting blood. Come on mate I know it will upset John Mcdonnell but I'll buy him a pint.

And Starmer says no ?

It also shows how much to the right Labour has moved.
I think this is a poorly calculated gamble to stick the knife in Sunak.
The thing is, the Tories were doing a good enough job of that all by themselves. Welcoming someone like this into the party is a big negative IMO.

I agree.

But it will be forgotten in a week WRT Labour.

Meanwhile Sunk will be remembered as jilted John.

I do not hail from the Tories.

It’s just mad to accept her if Labour want to stand for anything. She is very, very right wing.
"accept" as in she is standing down, and wished to signal support for Labour as she waves tara?

What's not to like?

If Farage stated he is leaving public life and wishes to depart as an endorser of Labour, mea culpa, I'd say "OK mate, goodbye and thanks for all the fish"

It is what it is.
